Hollywood Guns: The Glock 19
The Glock 19 didn’t become an icon only because of its real-world popularity. Over the past several decades, it has also become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable modern handguns.
Its compact profile, squared slide, and distinctive black polymer frame make it easy for viewers to recognize on screen. For filmmakers, it looks believable in the hands of police officers, federal agents, soldiers, criminals, and action heroes — making it one of the most versatile modern firearms used in movies and television.
The Glock 19 has appeared throughout action films, crime dramas, and television series. A customized Glock 19 was notably carried by Halle Berry’s character Sofia in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
Part of the Glock’s appeal on screen is its clean, modern silhouette. It has no external hammer and very few visual distractions, helping it instantly communicate “modern tactical sidearm” to an audience.
Hollywood doesn’t always identify Glock models correctly, though. The Glock 17, 19, 22, and 23 can look very similar on camera, and productions occasionally use one model while the dialogue identifies another.
From gritty police dramas to highly choreographed action movies, the Glock 19 has built an on-screen legacy nearly as recognizable as its real-world reputation.
Of course, Sofia never seems to struggle while loading her magazines. Maybe the Super Thumb was just sitting off-camera.
For the Glock 19, the ADCO Super Thumb ST2 makes loading its double-stack 9mm magazines faster and more comfortable. Available for $6.95.
ADCO Sales and Super Thumb are independent and are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Glock or any film studio. Glock is a registered trademark of its respective owner; film and character references are used for commentary and identification only.
